Why I Wrote My First Book

Cowgirl Lessons was my way of capturing something truly special, my daughter’s first deep-down, forever kind of love: horses. It all started with Duchess, a sweet little half-Arabian, half-Welsh pony with a whole lot of sass and heart. Lizzie was just six when she began her lessons, and from day one, she was hooked. All the barn girls adored Duchess, but to Lizzie, she was magic.

We used to call Lizzie our “little cowgirl” because she was rarely seen without her boots and a horsey daydream. I wanted to bottle up that bond, the kind only a little girl and her first lesson horse can share. So, I wrote a story that’s full of heart, a little humor, and a real peek into what it means to care for a horse (mud, mess, and all). It’s more than just a story, it’s a love letter to the pony who started it all.
