Pay It Forward

I have a very strong belief in paying it forward. When I started this author journey back in 2017, I felt extremely lucky to find authors who were willing to answer my questions and provide advice even when I am sure they have answered that question to another budding author. I have learned to search groups to see if a particular question has been asked before and yes often I find they have. But sometimes, even if it’s a repeat question, it’s nice to have that fresh interaction and avoid hijacking someone’s post (if I did that to anyone – I am sorry!).

Even more special to me are the authors who have personally taken the time to answer my questions or give advice. Or just to sit and gab about books and the publishing process in general. It is absolutely amazing what you learn. They are the ones that have indicated they were in my shoes once. The newbie on the block asking the questions, asking for advice. And they came across someone who was willing to mentor them. And are now beautifully practicing the pay-it-forward ideal.

Recently, I have had the opportunity to talk with several new to me  authors. We have had great talks about book writing and marketing. I shared some of my experiences and some options for new venues for them to try. When I stop to think about it, I’m paying it forward. Do I have all the answers? Absolutely not! Trust me, I learn all the time as well. I just hope you take the time to answer a newbie’s question.
